Field Service Engineer – Ideally located within proximity to major airports

Are you a dedicated field service engineer or a former military technician seeking to engage with sophisticated, critical security technology?

As a Field Service Engineer at Leidos, you will deliver prompt and proficient technical and customer assistance for our advanced baggage handling systems at airports, focusing on the Southern region.

We are particularly interested in candidates with qualifications in electrical or mechanical engineering, as well as those with military engineering experience transitioning into civilian roles.

Your responsibilities will include being the lead engineer on new contracts with a significant airport consortium, where you will be tasked with the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of a range of intricate X-ray and CT-based devices, including body scanners and explosive trace detection systems, many of which are part of larger integrated systems.

Once systems are operational, you will conduct both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including radiation surveys, while documenting any design, reliability, and system issues that arise, as well as identifying the root causes of recurring component failures. You will also be responsible for providing detailed reports on maintenance activities, equipment malfunctions, downtime, and system availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical and customer support for installed systems and related projects.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and test a variety of airport security systems.
  • Perform both corrective and preventive maintenance, including radiation surveys.
  • Maintain calibration on all testing and radiation survey instruments.
  • Assist in customer training on installed systems and equipment.
  • Adhere to established maintenance protocols and procedures.
  • Report any design and reliability issues to technical support.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through effective communication and support.

Candidate Profile:

Strong customer service skills and the ability to work independently are essential. Willingness to travel and work on-call is required.

A full, clean UK driving license is necessary, and candidates must be able to obtain an Airside Security Pass.
