The Supply Resilience Directorate plays a pivotal role in orchestrating DHSC's initiatives related to supply management, adopting a strategic approach that involves collaboration across government sectors, the NHS, and industry partners. Our focus is on addressing challenges and disruptions in the supply of medical products and medicines while fostering long-term strategic solutions to enhance the resilience of essential supplies.

Role Description

We are seeking a Grade 7 Senior Policy Advisor within the Supply Engagement and Policy team. This position presents an exciting opportunity to navigate a dynamic and often fast-paced environment within the Supply Resilience Directorate, ensuring the uninterrupted supply of critical medical products and medicines.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting initiatives aimed at identifying significant risks and developing mitigation strategies for known supply threats.
  • Executing rapid projects designed to bolster supply resilience across various sectors.

Your primary workplace will be determined by your contractual agreement, typically located in either London or Leeds. DHSC promotes a flexible working environment, currently expecting a minimum of 60% of your working hours to be spent in the office to foster collaboration and teamwork.

While opportunities for remote work may be available, other flexible working arrangements can be discussed with the hiring manager based on individual circumstances and organizational needs.

Candidate Profile

  • Leading complex policy initiatives related to cross-cutting supply resilience threats and developing resilience strategies across various policy interventions.
  • Contributing to strategic priorities concerning national security and international supply chain impacts.
  • Influencing government-wide activities on supply chains by drafting policy documents and briefings.
  • Delivering priority projects aligned with the Directorate’s strategic goals, collaborating with colleagues across the Department and Government.
  • Establishing and nurturing strong relationships with key stakeholders, including trade associations and industry representatives, to inform policy and decision-making.
  • Preparing submissions, briefings, and communications for Ministers and senior leaders.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in policy and strategy development, with the ability to analyze complex issues and provide evidence-based recommendations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management capabilities, adept at managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes efficiently.
  • Experience in building and maintaining effective relationships across organizations and with industry stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach to working across a broad portfolio of cross-cutting policies.
  • A committed team player, willing to support and collaborate with colleagues of varying levels of experience and backgrounds.
