The Supply Resilience Directorate plays a pivotal role in coordinating DHSC's initiatives related to supply management, fostering a strategic approach in collaboration with various stakeholders, including government entities, the NHS, and industry partners. Our focus is on addressing challenges and disruptions in the supply of essential medicines and medical products while promoting long-term strategic solutions to enhance resilience.
Role Description
We are seeking two Senior Policy Advisors at the SEO level within the Strategic Supply and Continuity Team. These positions offer a unique chance to engage in a dynamic and often high-pressure environment within the Supply Resilience Directorate, contributing to a critical government initiative aimed at bolstering supply resilience for vital medicines and medical products.
Senior Policy Advisor - Supply Continuity
This role involves supporting ongoing and new initiatives to identify significant risks and develop mitigation strategies for known supply threats. You will lead priority projects aimed at enhancing resilience across critical products, considering both national and international factors impacting supply stability.
Senior Policy Advisor - Strategic Supply Resilience
The selected candidate will assist in programs that establish a long-term strategic framework to improve resilience for essential products. This includes formulating manufacturing policies for critical items and fostering international collaboration to maintain a global perspective on supply resilience efforts. This role is integral to shaping policy around a key government priority.
In both positions, you will have the opportunity to cultivate skills in policy formulation, project management, operational delivery, and stakeholder engagement. Our teams prioritize flexibility, ensuring that individuals have ambitious objectives and diverse responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex policy initiatives addressing cross-cutting supply resilience challenges and develop comprehensive resilience plans across various policy interventions.
- Support strategic priorities related to national security and international implications for supply chains, collaborating with the team to create supply resilience strategies aligned with the UK's broader objectives.
- Influence cross-government efforts on supply chains to ensure health supply considerations are prioritized, including drafting policy documents and briefings for senior leadership meetings.
- Execute priority projects to fulfill the Directorate's strategic goals, working collaboratively with colleagues across the Department and government.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including industry representatives, to inform policy and decision-making.
- Contribute to the preparation of submissions, briefings, and communications for senior leaders and other policy teams.
- Facilitate international engagement on supply resilience to ensure health supply chains are prioritized and advance the UK's strategic objectives.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in policy and strategy development, with the ability to analyze complex issues and make evidence-based recommendations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying intricate and sensitive information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Strong project management capabilities, adept at managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality results efficiently.
- Experience in building and sustaining effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Collaborative approach to working across a diverse portfolio of cross-cutting policy areas.
- A committed team player, eager to support and collaborate with colleagues of varying levels of experience and backgrounds.
Your primary workplace will be your designated office location, typically in London or Leeds. DHSC offers flexible working arrangements, with a current expectation of at least 60% of your time spent in the office to foster in-person collaboration and support.
During the application process, you will have the opportunity to express your location preference. Please note that this role is limited to candidates based in the UK, and some travel may be necessary across DHSC locations.
