GBR Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Food Production Shift Manager to join a leading chilled food manufacturing business. As a key member of the production team, you will be responsible for managing a team of 6 directs and c.50-100 indirect food production operatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Planning and Execution: Take ownership of the production team, ensuring full compliance to the daily and weekly production plans, delivering a quality food product range on-time-in-full (OTIF), meeting customer deadlines to a costed standard.
- Manufacturing Standards: Deliver world-class manufacturing standards through self-development and team development, ensuring excellent Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards at all times.
- Staffing and Scheduling: Ensure staffing numbers are set at an optimum level to achieve output levels to the standards required by customers.
- Quality and Compliance: Responsible for maintaining excellent GMP and HACCP standards at all times, delivering quality standards required by customers and external audits, such as British Retail Consortium (BRC) audits.
- Operational Efficiency: Ensure the smooth running of the core business by liaising with department leaders to coordinate stock, production, picking, and dispatch.
- Performance Metrics: Manage, control, and achieve set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including plan attainment, cost of quality, labor cost, training, skills gap, recruitment and retention, downtime, and waste.
- Food Safety: Take the lead on all things food safety, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Problem-Solving: Proactive and reactive day-to-day problem-solving to ensure daily production plans are met.
- Process Improvement: Proactively suggest process improvements and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives to improve throughputs and efficiency, leveraging Lean principles.
- Team Development: Be a real people motivator, manager, trainer, and developer of production team workers, maximizing their potential and identifying future leaders.
- Communication: Be a highly positive contributor in all production meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with the team.
- Disciplinary Actions: Carry out Return to Work (RTW) interviews, investigations, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Training and Development: Cross-train staff to enable them to multi-task and carry out varying duties, supporting the development of new products and New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives.
Requirements:
- Experience: Food production or processing experience at Shift Manager, FLM, Area Manager, Section Manager, Production Manager, or Factory Manager level.
- Industry Knowledge: Chilled food sector experience.
- Leadership Skills: Passionate mentor, coach, and motivator of others.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of GMP, BRC audits, retailer codes, health and safety, HACCP, SIC, CI, Lean, zero waste, and quality.
- Leadership Experience: Able to lead teams of 5+ directs and c.50-100 operatives.
