Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety professional to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees across all departments, with a particular focus on our laboratory teams. As a Senior Health & Safety Advisor, you will play a vital role in maintaining a positive health and safety culture within Oxitec.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive health and safety guidance to all teams, promoting a proactive and safety-conscious work environment.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop and implement robust risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify potential hazards within the workplace and implement effective control measures to mitigate risks.
  • Deliver engaging health and safety training programs to ensure all team members are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Oversee the maintenance and servicing of critical health and safety equipment, ensuring its proper functionality.
  • Conduct regular internal health and safety audits to assess compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents thoroughly, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Facilitate health and safety meetings to promote communication and information sharing.
  • Stay abreast of current health and safety legislation and ensure compliance within the organization.
Skills, Experience, and Education Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • Proven experience working in a laboratory setting is essential.
  • Relevant health and safety certifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and foster collaboration.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proven track record of accurate data recording.
  • A creative problem-solving approach and the ability to develop practical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
