The salary for this position is £63,856 (inclusive of a Market Premium Payment).

This role necessitates employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), which includes checks for criminal convictions.

Position Overview
Role Responsibilities

We are in search of a qualified Radiation Safety Consultant to provide expert advice and guidance alongside other health physics professionals, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

You will be integrated into the broader Health Physics Team and will be expected to offer guidance to various personnel engaged in different programs.

Additionally, you will participate in the review of radiological documentation and implement improvements as directed by the Health Physics Group Manager.

To excel in this role, you should possess a comprehensive understanding of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17), Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR16), and familiarity with other pertinent regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Implementing requirements for controlled and supervised areas.

Conducting prior assessments of plans for installations and the acceptance of new or modified sources of ionising radiation, ensuring appropriate engineering controls, design features, and warning devices are in place to limit exposure.

Regularly calibrating monitoring equipment for ionising radiation and ensuring its proper functionality and usage.

Conducting periodic examinations and testing of engineering controls, design features, safety features, and warning devices, along with routine checks of systems designed to limit exposure to ionising radiation.

Carrying out investigations as mandated by IRR17 and the organization.
Developing contingency plans.
Providing expert advice on safety considerations related to beryllium handling.
Important Note:
Work will occur in designated Radiological and Beryllium areas, involving Tritium research and Nuclear/Radiological Materials.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Valid Certificate of Competence as a Radiation Protection Advisor
  • Relevant Degree/HNC or extensive experience in radiation protection
  • Professional qualification in radiation protection, such as HPA/RPD Foundation Course in Radiation Protection or equivalent
Membership in the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP) is desirable but not mandatory. UKAEA may cover the membership costs.
