Job Title: Head of Department: History

Job Summary:

MLK Education Search is seeking an exceptional educator and leader to head up the History Department at a thriving community Academy in Southwark. As a key member of the school's leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading curriculum and teaching standards within History, with a focus on strategic oversight of Key Stage 3 and 4, and planning for the growth into Key Stage 5.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead curriculum and teaching standards within History, with a focus on strategic oversight of Key Stage 3 and 4, and planning for the growth into Key Stage 5.
  • Contribute to the development of teaching, learning, and assessment within the History Department.
  • Develop and implement schemes of work and resources that meet the needs of students and the school's curriculum.
  • Lead training and professional development for History teachers and staff.
  • Build relationships with specialist providers and stay up-to-date with statutory guidance and curriculum developments.
  • Communicate effectively with families and students about curriculum and delivery of History.
  • Contribute to the development of History across the federation.
  • Plan and deliver outstanding lessons within the department.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status and relevant qualifications and experience in History.
  • Demonstrate an overview of the needs of the whole school as well as curriculum area(s).
  • Be aware of current relevant legislation and educational developments.
  • Understand the curriculum and factors contributing to the learning experience of pupils.
  • Demonstrate a positive approach to change.
  • Have relevant skills and qualities, and a flexible approach to the demands of the post.
  • Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Be able to work as part of a team, valuing the contribution of other members.
  • Demonstrate commitment to all school policies.
  • Understand and respond to the needs of pupils with SEN.
