Job Title: Head of Department
Job Summary:
MLK Education Search is seeking an exceptional teacher and leader to head up the thriving History Department at a community Academy in Southwark. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading curriculum and teaching standards within History, with a focus on strategic oversight of Key Stage 3 and 4, and planning for the growth into Key Stage 5.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead curriculum and teaching standards within History, with a focus on strategic oversight of Key Stage 3 and 4, and planning for the growth into Key Stage 5.
- Contribute to established Academy and department frameworks for lesson planning, delivery, and evaluation.
- Contribute to the teaching of History across all age and ability ranges.
- Plan and deliver outstanding lessons, ensuring that a variety of teaching resources are utilized appropriately.
- Contribute actively to the Academy's EDI strategy, taking oversight for this within the curriculum areas.
- Set and mark internal examinations and tests as required.
- Good knowledge of a wide range of teaching methods and to implement these in the classroom.
- Fully committed to the Academy's house and enrichment activities.
- Excellent ICT skills and use these as a core tool in the teaching of History.
- Accurate information for parents, attend parents' evenings and other presentation meetings as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status and have relevant qualifications and experience in your subject area.
- Demonstrate an overview of the needs of the whole school as well as curriculum area(s).
- Be aware of current relevant legislation and educational developments.
- Understand the curriculum and factors contributing to the learning experience of pupils.
- Demonstrate a positive approach to change.
- Have relevant skills and qualities, and a flexible approach to the demands of the post.
- Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Be able to work as part of a team, valuing the contribution of other members.
- Demonstrate commitment to all school policies.
- Understand and respond to the needs of pupils with SEN.
