Position Overview

We are looking for a motivated and proactive individual to become a vital member of the Purchasing and Distribution team within the Pharmacy department at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The ideal candidate will serve as the assistant to the Pharmacy Stores Manager, with responsibilities that include:

  • Overseeing the Pharmacy stores ward replenishment service across multiple hospital sites.
  • Ensuring the secure storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals to various wards, departments, and dispensaries within the organization.
  • Maintaining high standards within the stores area, fostering best practices, and facilitating the training and development of team members.
  • Monitoring daily follow-ups and collaborating with the purchasing officer to prioritize the procurement of medications.
  • Assisting with invoicing by investigating and resolving any discrepancies or disputes.
  • Conducting daily stock assessments within the pharmacy stores.
  • Supporting the implementation and operation of the Pharmacy stores automation system.

The successful candidate will possess self-motivation and strong communication skills. They should demonstrate effective time management and the ability to work collaboratively within a team or independently.

This role requires an organized individual capable of multitasking and accurately following instructions while maintaining competence in a fast-paced stores environment to deliver a customer-centric service. Previous experience in the NHS is advantageous.

Main Responsibilities

The successful applicant will contribute to the daily operations of Pharmacy Stores and Procurement, ensuring a high-quality, innovative, cost-effective, and efficient service. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a deputy for the store manager in managing all facets of Pharmacy stores.
  • Supporting Pharmacy Purchasing processes, including follow-ups, claim backs, and invoicing.

Job Requirements

While prior experience in a Pharmacy store and purchasing environment is desirable, it is not essential, as comprehensive training and guidance will be provided to the successful candidate.

Proficiency in keyboard skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, are essential.

Strong teamwork and organizational skills are required, along with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Candidates should be able to maintain composure under pressure and work diligently while paying close attention to detail.
