Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine
Position Overview
The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering clinical leadership, diagnosis, management, and treatment for patients presenting with a diverse range of medical conditions. You will serve as a key resource for medical, nursing, and allied health professionals throughout the Trust, advocating for high standards of patient care. The successful candidate will enhance and expand existing services by providing specialized knowledge and expertise.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Consultant, you will participate in the on-call rota, which currently operates at a frequency of 1 in 12 for both weekdays and weekends. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care across acute inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. Your responsibilities will include dedicated inpatient ward management, typically overseeing a defined number of patients.
The role offers the opportunity to mentor and supervise junior medical trainees who will assist in the care of your patients, should you choose to engage in educational activities.
You will also be expected to engage in regular clinical audits as part of your Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) commitment, utilizing audit findings to enhance patient care within the Trust and the broader healthcare community. Time will be allocated for participation in audit meetings and presentations as appropriate.
A commitment to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning is essential, with support and time provided to meet annual continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.
Leadership and Patient Care
You will provide guidance and leadership to the clinical team regarding patient care, education, and overall well-being. Additionally, you will address any concerns or complaints raised by service users related to medical care, working alongside the Directorate manager, Clinical Director, and Complaints team to ensure timely and appropriate responses.
About the Organization

In return, we offer a role that is both purposeful and flexible. The extensive scope of the NCA allows for ongoing challenges and opportunities, ensuring your career can progress in a positive direction. By becoming part of our organization, you will also gain access to a competitive benefits package, which includes a generous annual leave allowance, flexible working arrangements, and designated time for health and well-being activities, promoting a balanced work-life experience.
