Position Overview

The Gastroenterology department is a vibrant and progressive unit within the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA). The department is currently undergoing significant enhancements, including the establishment of a state-of-the-art Community Diagnostic Centre, which has garnered national recognition for its innovative approach to diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

The NCA operates multiple endoscopy facilities across various locations, making it one of the most extensive endoscopy services in the region. The endoscopy department is responsible for delivering a range of services, including:

  • NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
  • Colonoscopy
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) procedures
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
  • Advanced Lower Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD)

As we expand our endoscopy services, we are seeking a Consultant Endoscopist to contribute to the delivery of exceptional endoscopic care to our patients. This role offers the chance to play a pivotal part in shaping the future of our services.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
  • Valid Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council
  • MRCPCH or MRCP or equivalent training and experience
  • Registration on the GMC Specialist Register

Desirable Qualifications

  • Post Graduate Degree (MD, PhD, MSc)
  • Evidence of Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine
  • Compliance with BSG / JAG standards
  • Completion of professional training in Gastroenterology / General (acute medicine)

Desirable Experience

  • Development of specialist/sub-specialist areas within endoscopy
  • ERCP/EUS
  • Advanced Lower GI polypectomy
