London, Greater London, United Kingdom Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The Emergency Department is presenting a remarkable opportunity for dedicated, highly skilled, and proactive Advanced Clinical Practitioners to become integral members of our expanding ACP team.

At the Royal Free, we are committed to the significance of Advanced Clinical Practitioners and actively cultivate an environment that promotes independent practice while facilitating the ongoing enhancement of your clinical and leadership capabilities. We aim to broaden our ACP team within the Emergency Department and seek practitioners from nursing, allied health professions, paramedic, or pharmacy backgrounds. Our current team of Consultants possesses diverse sub-specialty interests and is well-equipped to mentor ACPs throughout their training and continuous professional development.

You will receive support through regular clinical oversight, personalized learning plans, continuous education, and access to a rapidly growing network of ACPs for mentorship and guidance. Opportunities for secondments in various specialties will be available. We conduct a consistent educational program and provide access to quality improvement training and involvement in projects.

The successful candidates will operate within the emergency department and the same-day emergency care unit. Applicants with a background in pediatrics will be assigned to the pediatric emergency department. We are eager to nurture those with specialized skills or interests.

You will flourish in our open, inclusive, and collaborative atmosphere where every individual is valued and respected for their unique contributions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fulfill the core ACP responsibilities, which include assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with undifferentiated clinical presentations under appropriate supervision in the Emergency Department.
  • Integrate into the ED doctor rota once deemed competent and have completed the necessary competencies, while also participating in the departmental educational program.
  • Collaborate effectively with the multi-professional team both within and outside the Emergency Department, demonstrating strong multi-disciplinary teamwork.
  • Engage in and/or lead clinical research initiatives that will inform practice advancements.
  • Ensure compliance with Clinical Governance standards through annual participation in quality improvement and audit projects.
  • Evolve as a clinical leader and serve as a positive role model.
  • Support and mentor trainees, new, and experienced ACPs, as well as others in advanced and specialized roles to maximize their potential.
  • Contribute to the formulation of local guidelines and standards.
  • Report to the Head of Nursing and Lead Consultant for the ACP program, acting as an expert team member for the effective delivery of the Advanced/Emergency Care Practitioner service.

About Our Organization

The leadership within the organization and the Emergency Department is enthusiastic about expanding the Advanced Clinical Practitioner workforce. The Emergency Department is exceptionally busy, providing opportunities to enhance your medical knowledge, particularly as a specialist center for renal and transplant medicine, among others. We have evolved our approach to delivering emergency care, particularly through the expansion of our Acute Same-Day Emergency Care, which is managed and delivered by our ED team.

The Trust is currently undergoing a transition with new leadership, as North Middlesex joins the Royal Free London Foundation NHS Trust. We are facing new challenges ahead. As we progress through the year, we are looking for individuals who are ready to grow with us and be part of a team dedicated to championing transformation.
