Job Title: Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment

We are partnering with a Local Authority in Lambeth to assist with the appointment of a Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment on a 3-month contract, with the possibility of extension. Please submit your CV for immediate consideration.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the rehabilitation and mobility needs of visually impaired individuals, providing training to enable them to maintain or improve their independence, confidence, and abilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide resources and equipment to reduce the risk of accidents, such as walking in traffic or burns from cooking.
  • Assess the needs of individuals newly registered as blind or partially sighted for services provided by the team or for referral to other agencies, liaising with carers and others as necessary.
  • Provide or assist with rehabilitation and mobility training for visually impaired individuals on an individual or group basis.
  • Train service users for independent living, including daily living, mobility, and orientation, personal hygiene, use of special equipment, communication aids, etc.
Requirements:
  • A foundation degree level qualification in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Considerable experience of working within a social care setting, working with people with disabilities or older people.
  • Knowledge of causes and effects of common disabling medical conditions.
Important Notes:
  • You should be available to work immediately or at short notice.
  • You should have the right to work in the UK.
  • This role requires an enhanced DBS.
