Rehabilitation Officer Visual Impairment Specialist

We are partnering with a local authority in London to assist with the appointment of a Rehabilitation Officer Visual Impairment on a short-term contract, with the possibility of extension. Please submit your CV for consideration.

Compensation: competitive daily rate

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the rehabilitation and mobility needs of visually impaired individuals, with the goal of enhancing their independence, confidence, and abilities.
  • Through risk assessment and provision of resources and equipment, reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, such as walking in traffic or burns from cooking.
  • Assess the needs of individuals newly registered as blind or partially sighted, and provide services or referrals to other agencies as necessary, collaborating with carers and other stakeholders.
  • Deliver rehabilitation and mobility training to visually impaired individuals on an individual or group basis.
  • Train service users in independent living skills, including daily living, mobility, and orientation, personal hygiene, use of special equipment, and communication aids.

Requirements:

  • A foundation degree level qualification in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Considerable experience working in a social care setting with people with disabilities or older adults.
  • Knowledge of common disabling medical conditions and their effects.

Important Notes:

  • Availability to start immediately or at short notice is required.
  • Right to work in the UK is essential.
  • An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.
