Job Title: Project Accountant at Balfour Beatty's Highways Team

Are you passionate about numbers and financial management? Balfour Beatty is seeking a Project Accountant to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the financial integrity of a major project.

As the Project Accountant, you will be the financial expert, ensuring that all monetary aspects are accurately managed and reported. This position requires a strong presence on-site, allowing for close collaboration with various teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate daily with Operations and Commercial teams to oversee project controls, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of payment applications for clients alongside the commercial team.
  • Work with teams to compile the weekly cost report.
  • Act as a financial advisor to leadership, ensuring effective management and reporting of all financial matters.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and financial reports in a timely manner, adhering to accounting policies.
  • Contribute to project review meetings, proactively identifying and addressing issues.
  • Partner with Commercial teams to understand and influence business performance while managing risks.
  • Monitor variances closely, consulting with budget holders and commercial managers as necessary.
  • Manage Project Bank Account reports, both internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with accounting services to ensure accurate tracking of project costs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, Accounting Standards, and Group Policy.
  • Uphold Balfour Beatty's values, focusing on safety and well-being.
  • Play a crucial role in achieving successful financial and commercial outcomes for projects.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified accountant with experience in contracting or project finance preferred.
  • Eager to learn, capable of working independently while fostering teamwork and strong relationships.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with a talent for managing complex data and proficient Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to extract information from stakeholders at all levels.
  • Comfortable working with large data sets and proficient in Excel.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships within the finance team and across the organization.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly Oracle, is advantageous.
  • Understands and implements controls in processes, procedures, and reporting.
