Accounts Assistant – Field & Flower

Field & Flower is a prominent UK food subscription service established by two friends with a shared passion for agriculture and gourmet food. We specialize in high-quality, ethically sourced meat and fish, along with a selection of artisanal products that promote sustainable practices and support local communities.

Position Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and organized Accounts Assistant to become a vital part of our finance department. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing the company's financial operations, ensuring precision and effectiveness in all accounting activities. A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn are essential for this role.

Primary Responsibilities

The role will involve a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Managing the purchase ledger: maintaining records, allocating payments, reconciling supplier statements monthly, and requesting credits.
  • Matching purchase invoices to purchase orders through our tailored purchase order system.
  • Overseeing the sales ledger, which is minimal due to our sales receipt-based operations, and managing credit control.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant financial policies and procedures in accounting activities.
  • Handling inquiries from both external and internal sources via phone and email.
  • Conducting daily bank feed matching and monthly bank reconciliations; managing petty cash and expenses.
  • Preparing supplier payments for weekly payment authorization, addressing queries, and updating the live cash flow spreadsheet.
  • Maintaining an updated schedule of supplier bank details.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the monthly VAT return by ensuring eligible VAT is reclaimed.
  • Managing the asset register.
  • Performing additional tasks to support the Financial Analyst and Head of Finance.

Essential Skills

  • AAT part or fully qualified (experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications).
  • Familiarity with Sage or the ability to learn cloud-based systems and new ERPs quickly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the capability to work collaboratively with various teams.

Additional Information

Work Schedule

  • Hours: 22-24 hours per week across 4 to 5 days.
  • Compensation: £25000-£27000 per annum, pro-rata, based on experience.
