Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom The Wildlife Trusts Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our policy and public affairs team as a Public Affairs Specialist. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing our advocacy strategy, working closely with our Head of Public Affairs and other colleagues to build support for our policy priorities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the legislative process and parliamentary procedures, with the ability to communicate complex policies in a clear and compelling manner. Experience working with politicians and civil servants, as well as supporting successful advocacy campaigns, is highly desirable.

We value passion, respect, trust, integrity, pragmatic activism, and strength in diversity. We particularly encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including people from minority backgrounds and people with disabilities.

As a Disability Confident employer, we are committed to offering an interview to anyone with a disability that meets all the essential criteria for the post.

About Us

The Wildlife Trusts are a grassroots movement of over 900,000 members, 32,500 volunteers, and 2,500 staff across the UK. We are at an exciting moment in our 110-year history, with an ambitious new strategy setting out a vision of nature in recovery, with abundant, diverse wildlife and natural processes creating wilder landscapes where people and nature thrive.

We need to urgently reverse the loss of wildlife and put nature into recovery at scale if we are to prevent climate and ecological disaster. This will require key stakeholders and the public to take action for nature's recovery, necessitating big, bold changes in our operations and the development of a strong, collaborative culture.

About You

If you are passionate about policy and public affairs and are looking to drive positive change across Whitehall, we have an exciting opportunity for you. You will work with our policy, campaigning, and communications colleagues to build support for our advocacy priorities and have the chance to collaborate with other charities and NGOs on dynamic campaigns addressing climate change and the loss of the natural world.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a dynamic and supportive team, with a strong focus on staff development and well-being.

We are committed to increasing the diversity of our staff through our Levelling the Field recruitment pledge.
