International Trade Compliance Lead

As the International Trade Compliance Lead, you will oversee the strategic and operational management of all activities related to trade, customs, and security compliance. Collaborating with various functional teams, you will foster a culture of compliance that safeguards the organization while facilitating its strategic goals.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the subject matter expert for all facets of trade compliance, staying abreast of global trade developments, regulatory changes, and risk management strategies.
  • Providing direct counsel to senior management regarding compliance updates, potential risks, and opportunities to enhance value.
  • Proactively managing the portfolio of licensing and agreements in the UK and US, ensuring alignment with business needs and future strategic objectives with minimal disruption.
  • Continuously enhancing and embedding compliance and security protocols and processes.
  • Playing an active role in various project teams, analyzing complex business transactions to ensure compliance requirements are met and risks are effectively monitored.
  • Coordinating with external entities such as suppliers, contractors, and customers to ensure compliance requirements are effectively communicated and supply chain risks are mitigated.
  • Serving as the Security Controller for the organization, responsible for managing classified information, advising on physical and cyber security measures, and overseeing personnel security clearance processes.
  • Representing and guiding the organization through internal and external compliance verification activities.

Key skills required:

  • Extensive and diverse experience in an international trade compliance setting, ideally within the defense manufacturing sector.
  • Advanced knowledge of UK and US trade regulations, including EAR, ITAR, and OFAC, along with classification lists.
  • Expertise in all aspects of export licensing and agreements, including TAAs and MLAs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex regulatory information into clear and accessible formats.
  • Self-motivated and independent, capable of executing responsibilities with minimal oversight.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and upholds the highest ethical standards.
  • Diplomatic in approach, effectively persuading and energizing compliance initiatives across various functions.
