PhD Researcher: Multi-Material Inkjet Printing Scale-Up

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the University of Nottingham's Centre for Additive Manufacturing (CfAM). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project focused on multi-material inkjet printing scale-up for functional structures and electronics.
About the Project:
The PhD project will involve developing materials, methods, and designs to control the 3D distribution of differing functional materials, giving high-resolution control over graded properties, graded chemistries, and 3D-integrated components. The researcher will have access to unique leading-edge multi-material inkjet 3D printing equipment, only available at CfAM, and will work closely with leading experts in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop control over the bonding at interfaces between materials and layers
- Conduct hands-on research in world-class laboratory facilities
- Develop skills in photopolymer chemistry, materials development, design engineering, and materials processing for additive manufacturing
- Characterise materials using electron microscopy, mechanical analysis, and advanced spectrometry techniques
Requirements:
- Master's degree in a relevant field (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physical Sciences)
- Strong background in materials sciences and/or digital design
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
