Position Overview

As a Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant, you will collaborate closely with a licensed Occupational Therapist, engaging in practical tasks related to the execution and assessment of both standardized and non-standardized evaluation tools. Your role will include facilitating individual and group therapy sessions as directed by the Occupational Therapist, along with performing essential administrative and clerical responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Assist clients in accessing community resources for both leisure and therapeutic purposes.
  • Participate in client meetings to address feedback and concerns.
  • Aid the Occupational Therapist in organizing a support forum for caregivers.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist to ensure that therapeutic methods are grounded in evidence-based practices.
  • Communicate effectively with fellow Occupational Therapy team members and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate information exchange.
  • Maintain documentation and records to the required standards, providing precise feedback to relevant parties.
  • Recognize communication barriers and employ effective strategies to engage with service users.
  • Build therapeutic relationships with clients to enhance their therapeutic outcomes.
  • Convey and receive sensitive information with empathy, reassurance, and motivational techniques.
  • Consider and understand barriers to comprehension, such as mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
  • Assist clients in planning for leave and making suitable recreational choices that promote health and well-being.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff regarding daily operational matters.
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings on behalf of the Occupational Therapist, providing updates on client progress and monitoring changes.
  • Collaborate with nursing colleagues and other healthcare professionals as necessary to address client needs and advancements.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Relevant training or development experience in Mental Health settings.

Experience

  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and applicable legislation.
  • Ability to reflect on and critically evaluate personal performance.
  • Capacity to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in computer usage.
  • Skill in prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Strong time management abilities.

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in a mental health environment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3, QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and a basic understanding of physical health conditions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of recovery principles in mental health.
  • Awareness of how occupational therapy benefits clients in mental health contexts.
