Position Overview:

Thales is seeking to hire a Technical Support Specialist to be stationed at our Cheadle Site for our Sonar Equipment.

As the leading provider of Sonar equipment, support, and expertise to the Royal Navy, Thales has been equipping the guardians of the sea with specialized Sonar technology for over six decades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Health and Safety of all Thales operations conducted by you and adhere to the following:
  • Provide support to both Royal Navy and Export Platforms in defect resolution:
    • Conduct and supervise front-line support, including fault diagnosis and testing, as well as acceptance trials both in port and at sea.
    • Offer on-call telephone support to our clients (once sufficiently knowledgeable).
    • Document site visit reports.
  • Assist with maintenance periods/refits for both Royal Navy and Export Platforms:
    • Perform Pre-Upkeep Maintenance Assessment (PUMA) inspections.
    • Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks.
    • Escalate engineering issues to the Field Services Manager or Service Delivery Manager as necessary.
    • Prepare post-maintenance reports.
  • Submit weekly reports to the Service Delivery Manager or Field Services Manager detailing:
    • Activities undertaken.
    • Upcoming tasks.
    • Achievements, challenges, and opportunities.
    • Identify any support needed from the project or department.
  • Comply with all export control regulations, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Candidate Profile:

  • Extensive experience with electronic equipment; familiarity with electrical and hydraulic systems is advantageous.
  • Network/IT experience is also beneficial.
  • Experience working with the armed forces and understanding their protocols is a plus.
  • Ability to strictly adhere to procedures while also suggesting improvements based on personal experience and knowledge.
  • Preference for hands-on work, with an appreciation for thorough documentation and regular updates.
  • Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Flexibility to spend significant time away from the office (up to 50% of the time), often responding to customer needs on short notice.

Security Clearance: The successful candidate will require full Security Clearance.
