Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The Oxford Centre for Enablement (OCE) is dedicated to providing specialized rehabilitation services for individuals aged 16 and above who have experienced neurological incidents. Our patient population primarily consists of those recovering from vascular or traumatic brain injuries, including conditions such as head injuries, strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, and other brain injuries resulting from infections or cardiorespiratory events.

This evolving service is in a transformative phase, and we seek enthusiastic professionals who are committed to delivering exceptional care in this unique environment.

The OCE Inpatient Ward accommodates patients for a duration of 3 to 6 months. As a Level 1 Neuro-rehabilitation center, our multidisciplinary team (MDT) employs a patient-centered approach to care, empowering patients and their families to enhance their personal growth, regain independence, and reintegrate into society.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for individuals to enhance their clinical, leadership, and management capabilities while making a significant impact on the lives of those navigating the challenges of recovery from brain injuries.

Key Responsibilities

As a Band 5 Registered Nurse with expertise in Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, or Learning Disability Nursing, you will be an integral part of a specialized interdisciplinary team, closely collaborating with patients on their recovery journey from acquired brain injuries. Key responsibilities include:

  • Rehabilitative Nursing: Utilize expert knowledge within the interdisciplinary team to foster independence and adaptation for patients during their recovery process.
  • Understanding Brain Injury: Acquire insights into brain injury dynamics and the behavioral responses of patients.
  • Therapeutic Relationships: Establish strong connections with patients and their families to enhance overall well-being.
  • Communication Skills: Develop effective communication strategies to address the complex needs of patients with brain injuries.
  • Nutrition Management: Oversee dietary modifications, including gastrostomy or jejunostomy feeding, and stable NG tube feeding as required.
  • Tissue Viability: Ensure the prevention of skin damage and the maintenance of tissue health.
  • Continence Management: Address and manage continence issues that may arise post-brain injury.

If you are passionate, empathetic, and dedicated to making a positive difference, this role may align well with your professional aspirations.
