As a vital member of our Neuro-oncology team, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care to patients diagnosed with cancer. Our nursing staff is integral to ensuring comprehensive support for patients at our facilities. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, utilizing advanced technologies to facilitate personalized assessments and care strategies.
Essential Qualifications
- Considerable post-registration experience at Band 5/6 level
- Experience in cancer or neurology nursing
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in collaborative multidisciplinary practice
- Understanding of leadership and organizational dynamics
- Proficiency in IT and data management
- NMC Registered Nurse status
Informal visits to our facilities are encouraged.

Role Responsibilities
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will:
- Manage patient referrals and serve as the primary contact for a designated caseload.
- Offer guidance, education, and support to patients, their families, and healthcare professionals.
- Provide clinical care in designated settings following established protocols.
- Facilitate the efficient operation of the service.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure seamless patient care.
- Engage with other teams to support coordinated care pathways.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the service.
Clinical Duties
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will:
- Act as a key contact for patients and their families, delivering clinical care and specialist advice.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, providing support and guidance.
- Assess the health and psychosocial needs of patients, ensuring care is tailored to their requirements.
- Deliver expert nursing care within agreed practice settings, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Empower patients through effective communication, enabling informed health decisions.
- Advocate for patients and their families.
- Utilize conflict resolution strategies effectively.
- Educate patients and families to promote health and self-management.
- Maintain comprehensive patient documentation in accordance with NMC standards.
- Evaluate care effectiveness in partnership with patients and the healthcare team.
- Support the discharge process for patients.
Leadership Responsibilities
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will:
- Participate in developing care standards and practice guidelines.
- Contribute to nurse-led initiatives that benefit the patient population.
- Share clinical advancements to ensure evidence-based care and service improvement.
- Engage in clinical governance activities relevant to your practice area.
- Assist management teams in achieving Trust and Directorate goals.

Education and Training
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will:
- Enhance your theoretical knowledge and clinical skills through continuous education.
- Maintain a professional portfolio.
- Support the development of nursing knowledge and skills among colleagues.
- Identify educational needs for patients, families, and staff.
- Provide specialist support and education for service users.
- Contribute to the training of students from various healthcare disciplines.
- Organize and participate in educational programs and study days.
- Establish a network for support and learning with other specialists.
Quality Improvement and Practice Development
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will:
- Assist in evaluating service delivery and patient care, including monitoring patient experiences.

Essential Qualifications
Education
- Required: Diploma or Degree in Nursing
- Required: NMC Registration
- Preferred: Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field
Experience
- Required: Experience in neurology or cancer nursing
- Required: Confidence in knowledge and willingness to seek guidance
- Required: Significant experience at Band 5 level
- Required: Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team
- Required: Demonstrated excellent communication skills
- Preferred: Knowledge of cancer treatment protocols
- Preferred: Experience at Band 6 level
