Detailed Role Information

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has received Stroke Catalyst Funding from NHSE to explore a novel Psychology workforce model that collaborates with the Stroke Association and Talking Therapies services throughout the Northern and Eastern Devon Stroke Pathways. This role presents an exciting chance to join a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to delivering care to stroke patients and their families.

As a Clinical Psychology Assistant affiliated with the Community Stroke Services, you will assist Practitioner Psychologists in conducting Specialist Psychological and Neuropsychological assessments and interventions for patients and their families. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks, including psychological evaluations, formulation development, individual therapeutic sessions, and assessing the need for group interventions. You will play a vital role in the psychological care of patients and contribute to the overall evaluation of the service, which includes administering outcome measures, engaging in research, and supporting service development.

This position will be thoroughly supported and supervised by Specialist Practitioner Psychologists. Additionally, professional connections will be established within the Clinical Health Psychology and Neuropsychology Services network, which provides support to the Northern and Eastern Devon region. We are dedicated to assisting Clinical Psychology Assistants in developing the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for their future careers.

Candidates should ideally possess some experience in clinical services or related sectors that assist individuals with neurological or long-term health conditions.

Training and development opportunities are abundant here. We are committed to supporting Clinical Psychology Assistants in acquiring the skills, knowledge, and experience essential for their future career progression. This position would be particularly appealing to candidates seeking to gain further experience as they work towards postgraduate Practitioner Psychology training.

Innovation is a cornerstone of the Stroke and Neuro-rehabilitation services at the Royal Devon, exemplified by the implementation of various new initiatives and the creation of non-traditional roles in recent years, including a Research and Innovation Lead, Consultant AHPs, ACP, and FCP roles. This Catalyst pilot project is another example of innovation aimed at addressing the psychological needs of stroke survivors and their families, in conjunction with existing multi-disciplinary teams, to optimize clinical outcomes and achieve cost efficiencies in overall service delivery. The service will undergo comprehensive evaluation to inform future service development and business cases.
