Key Responsibilities

The Cellular Pathology department is seeking applications for the role of Clinical Laboratory Scientist. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and qualified individual to make a significant contribution to a dynamic department that supports various clinical services. The successful candidate will be encouraged to engage in ongoing projects aimed at advancing our digital pathology capabilities.

The department operates from early morning until evening, Monday through Saturday, and the selected candidate will be required to participate in the rotational holiday service, which includes approximately one holiday per year. Candidates with a background in cellular pathology are preferred, but we also welcome applications from those with an accredited degree in biomedical science who are willing to complete the necessary registration portfolio.

The laboratory is recognized for its commitment to training and development, providing excellent opportunities for personal growth and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). We are an approved training facility for undergraduate and specialist training program students.

Job Duties

The primary responsibilities and skills required for this position include:

  • Processing histological and cytological specimens for diagnostic and monitoring purposes.
  • Providing accurate and timely analytical data/results.
  • Delivering a high-quality service that meets the needs of patients and service users.
  • Supervising and supporting the training of staff as required.
  • Demonstrating attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure, and strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

The ideal candidate will possess laboratory experience in cellular pathology, particularly in areas such as embedding and microtomy. Additional desirable skills include experience in cytology, frozen sections, special stains, and immunohistochemistry.

The department follows a six-day working pattern, including approximately one Saturday shift every five weeks, and operates an on-call service. Candidates are encouraged to contact the department for further discussion regarding these positions prior to submitting an application.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (BSc) or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration.
