About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic pharmacy team at the Newham University Hospital. As a key member of our clinical and operational pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care through efficient medicines optimisation and supply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake projects to develop and implement systems for service provision, enhancing the efficiency of the service.
  • Provide a Medicines Management service to ward areas, working unsupervised in clinical areas.
  • Day-to-day line management of pharmacy support workers undertaking QCF/NVQ level 2 and 3 and ACPT.
  • Undertake duties and responsibilities as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of Pharmacy staff.
  • Provide a patient-facing service to inpatient wards, including the appropriate use and supply of medicines, obtaining medication histories, and communicating discrepancies to relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Consult with patients regarding their medication regimes to optimise medicines and support their understanding of their treatment.

Requirements
  • Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
  • HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy setting, with significant experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Medicines management experience in a ward-based setting, including medication history taking, POD assessment, and dispensing.
  • Pharmacy labelling and stock control systems experience.
  • Patient counselling experience.
  • Experience of pharmacy stock distribution and top-up services.
