Student Engagement Specialist

This role is vital for GBS to uphold our dedication to supporting our students, ensuring their success in every possible way. As a Student Engagement Specialist, you will become familiar with the students under your guidance and play an essential role in assisting them throughout their educational experience. You will be the primary contact for students seeking assistance, either helping them navigate their challenges or directing them to the appropriate services when issues are more complex. In either case, your contribution will be pivotal to their achievements.

The primary objective of this position is to facilitate student retention and progression through various academic levels, a fundamental aspect of student success at GBS. Your main responsibility will be to collaborate with the Head of Student Engagement, alongside Student Success Tutors and relevant academic personnel, to help re-engage students in their studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with individual students identified as disengaged to assist them in returning to effective study habits.
  • Ensure all assigned students are contacted to understand the barriers they face in their studies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of interactions and progress.
  • Work under the guidance of the Head of Student Engagement and in partnership with relevant academic staff to create tailored plans for each student to resume their studies.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support students in remaining engaged with their academic pursuits.
  • Adhere to professional standards and guidelines when addressing the needs of non-attending students in efforts to re-engage them.
  • Assist in the administration of surveys and the collection of data for analysis by the Planning, Information, and Delivery department.
  • Support the Registry with induction and enrollment processes as needed.
  • Maintain flexibility to ensure a consistent presence of Student Engagement Specialists across all partnerships and campuses.
Qualifications
  • A degree or equivalent qualification, with knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practices, along with prior experience working with students in higher education, particularly with mature learners.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor messages for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible manner.
  • Strong planning and prioritization skills to achieve objectives, work collaboratively within a team, and foster positive relationships with students.
  • High proficiency in computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
  • A keen attention to detail and strong organizational abilities are essential.
