As part of the South West Prison Healthcare initiative, we are expanding our recruitment efforts and seeking empathetic, knowledgeable, and driven Pharmacy Technicians to join our supportive team.

Our healthcare professionals significantly influence the promotion of health and wellness among incarcerated individuals, utilizing skills and strategies that inspire hope for their future reintegration into society. We provide integrated healthcare services, including Mental Health, Physical Health, Pharmacy, and Clinical Substance Misuse, to deliver effective and responsive care aimed at enhancing well-being and achieving better outcomes.

As a member of our pharmacy team, you will engage in a progressive service that encourages both professional and personal growth for all staff, enhancing their clinical and interpersonal competencies.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of our Senior Pharmacy Technicians and Regional Pharmacists, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of the pharmacy and medicines management service.

Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Managing all facets of inventory control, including routine ordering, receipt of goods, data entry, and storage of medications.
  • Processing and overseeing prescription requests and addressing patients' medication inquiries.
  • Administering medications at Medication Administration Points and serving as a secondary verifier for controlled substance administration.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician

Desirable:

  • Accredited Checking Technician Certificate and/or Medicines Optimisation Accreditation

Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience in a pharmacy setting

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in a prison or mental health pharmacy environment
  • Knowledge and experience in verifying dispensed prescriptions

Skills and Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Proficiency in using (or willingness to learn) computer software, including Pharmacy Manager, JAC, and Microsoft applications

Desirable:

  • Understanding of mental health issues and substance misuse treatment
