About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our dynamic ward-based team at Mulberry Ward in Scunthorpe. If you have a genuine passion for working within mental health, particularly with adults experiencing acute mental health challenges, this opportunity allows you to make a tangible difference in their recovery journey.

Working collaboratively with the Occupational Therapist, you will provide person-centered care and interventions aimed at promoting independence among patients. Your contributions will be instrumental in reducing hospital stays and supporting patient well-being as part of a multidisciplinary team encompassing nurses, psychologists, medical staff, and nursing assistants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement individual therapeutic intervention programs based on assessments and treatment goals set by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Assist in conducting community-based individual assessments alongside the Occupational Therapist.
  • Collaborate with patients to develop independent living skills, fostering their recovery and vocational aspirations in preparation for discharge.
  • Deliver agreed Occupational Therapy interventions to patients independently in various settings, including community locations and patient homes, under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist.
  • Contribute to group therapy sessions and actively participate in evaluating group effectiveness alongside service users and the multidisciplinary team. Ensure a diverse and engaging program of activities.
  • Provide accurate and timely verbal and written updates regarding patient progress.
  • Promote meaningful occupations within the patient group.
  • Source resources for ward activities, maintain the therapy space by organizing supplies, creating a welcoming environment, and utilizing space creatively.
