Therapeutic Support Assistant

Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, United Kingdom Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHSFT Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to become a vital member of our occupational therapy team within a clinical environment. This role is situated in a specialized ward focused on mental health recovery. If you are passionate about facilitating rehabilitation through engaging activities and supporting individuals in their journey towards independence, this position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute positively to patient care.

Collaborating closely with the Occupational Therapist, you will deliver tailored care and interventions aimed at enhancing the autonomy of our patients while minimizing their duration of hospital stay. Your responsibilities will include facilitating group sessions, assisting with personalized care plans, and working as part of a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team that includes nursing staff, psychological professionals, and medical personnel.

Our organization values the well-being of its staff and provides numerous support networks, regular supervision, and ongoing professional development opportunities to ensure your growth and satisfaction in this role.

The position is based in a 17-bed facility dedicated to individuals facing acute and complex mental health challenges. The ward is designed to provide round-the-clock care, focusing on risk management and recovery for clients experiencing significant mental health crises.

Key Responsibilities

- Implement individualized therapeutic programs and relay pertinent information in accordance with the assessment framework and treatment objectives established by the Occupational Therapist.

- Assist the Occupational Therapist in conducting community-based assessments tailored to individual needs.

- Collaborate with service users to cultivate independent living skills and work towards personal recovery and vocational aspirations in preparation for discharge, as directed.

- Execute agreed-upon Occupational Therapy interventions with service users in community settings and their homes, as needed and directed by the Occupational Therapist.

- Facilitate group activities and contribute to the ongoing evaluation of these sessions, ensuring a diverse and engaging program of activities in partnership with service users and the multi-disciplinary team.

- Provide accurate, relevant, and timely verbal and written updates regarding patient progress.

- Promote meaningful engagement through occupation within the patient community.

- Identify and procure resources for ward activities, taking the lead in maintaining the therapy environment (organizing supplies, creating an inviting atmosphere, and utilizing space creatively).
