Speech Therapy Assistant

Position Overview
We are offering TWO positions to enhance the provision of Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) across both community and inpatient environments, collaborating closely with Speech and Language Therapists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Successful candidates must demonstrate flexibility, including the ability to conduct community visits to facilitate therapy in clients' residences. There may also be a need to engage in inpatient settings, particularly within specialized units.
Your responsibilities will encompass delivering communication therapy, assisting with augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC), and implementing exercises for speech and swallowing. This role will also involve providing guidance, motivation, and training to clients, their caregivers, and family members. A comprehensive approach will include support aimed at promoting lifestyle modifications to mitigate the risk of complications and health issues.
These roles are ideally suited for individuals currently operating at a Band 4 level or possessing relevant experience in this field, but we are also open to candidates aspiring to advance from a Band 3 position, which will be supported through the completion of a foundation degree and relevant work-based competencies as per organizational policy.
Key Responsibilities
Operate within a competency-based framework to manage an assigned caseload of clients. Gather baseline data from various sources to facilitate thorough client assessments. Work autonomously or in collaboration with qualified therapists (depending on acquired competencies and case complexity) to comprehensively evaluate client needs, including communication, physical, functional, social, and cognitive dimensions. Develop, review, and adjust treatment plans in alignment with client objectives and outcomes achieved through interventions.
Assume responsibility for managing your caseload within designated timelines, actively seeking regular supervision and support as necessary. Ensure that every interaction is meaningful and seek guidance for tasks that exceed completed competencies. Monitor and adapt treatment formats according to clinical requirements and client goals, ensuring the application of validated outcome measures for each individual. Plan, facilitate, and finalize discharge processes, including the provision of information to relevant professionals.
Exhibit flexibility as a collaborative team member, assisting the department with additional tasks within your skill set as needed, including administrative duties, data collection, and maintenance tasks.
