Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a skilled Band 6 nurse to join a dedicated Tissue Viability team.

We seek a passionate and experienced nurse, working part-time, to assist the Tissue Viability Nurse Specialists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based wound care guidance and education to patients and healthcare staff within the designated regions.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve supporting community teams, inpatient units, and primary healthcare professionals in managing patients with intricate and/or chronic wounds, including pressure ulcers and leg ulcers. This is aimed at ensuring outstanding care is provided at the community level.

As a Tissue Viability Nurse, you will contribute to the creation and implementation of the tissue viability educational program for healthcare personnel engaged in wound and skin care within the local health framework. This will encompass formal group training, facilitating TVN link nurse sessions, and providing one-on-one training for staff, patients, and their families.

You will collaborate with the broader Sussex Community Foundation Trust to advocate for best practices and continuous service enhancement that addresses the wound care requirements of the community. When required, you will act in place of the Band 7 Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist and participate in Trust-wide tissue viability initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

You will be responsible for assisting community teams, inpatient units, and primary healthcare staff in managing patients with complex and/or chronic wounds, including pressure ulcers and leg ulcers. This will be achieved with the shared aim of promoting excellent care at the heart of the community.

As the Tissue Viability Nurse, you will assist with the development and participate in the delivery of the tissue viability educational programme to health care personnel involved with wound care and skin care within the local health economy. This will include formal group training, facilitating TVN Forum sessions and one-to-one training of staff, patients, and relatives.

You will also be working as part of the wider Sussex Community Foundation Trust to promote best practice and ongoing service development that is responsive to the wound care needs of the area the service provides. When necessary, you will deputise for the Band 7 Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist nurse and work as part of the wider SCFT TVN team on Trust-wide tissue viability related projects.

Qualifications and Professional Registration

Essential

  • Registered nurse qualification / degree or diploma
  • NMC registration
  • ENB 998 or equivalent mentorship qualification

Desirable

  • Leg Ulcer Management Module or Complex wound or Tissue Viability module or working towards
  • Evidence of a range of clinical competencies

Experience

Essential

  • 2 years of post-registration experience
  • Up-to-date competencies in Doppler ABPI and compression bandaging

Desirable

  • Experience working in a community setting is desirable

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated competency in a range of clinical skills, including wound management and compression bandaging
  • Knowledge of current local policies regarding wound, leg ulcer, and pressure ulcer management
  • Ability to promote independence and choice in patient care
  • Familiarity with SystmOne and mobile working; IT literate or willing to achieve within an agreed period
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance, clinical audit, and professional codes of conduct
  • Ability to recognize and respect the boundaries of the role
