Job Overview

An excellent opportunity is available for a skilled Band 6 nurse to join a dedicated Tissue Viability team.

We seek a proactive and experienced nurse, working part-time, to assist the Tissue Viability Nurse Specialists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based wound care guidance and education to both patients and healthcare staff within the northern region of West Sussex.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve supporting community teams, inpatient units, and primary healthcare personnel in managing patients with complex and/or chronic wounds, including pressure ulcers and leg ulcers. This will be accomplished with the shared goal of fostering exceptional care within the community.

As a Tissue Viability Nurse, you will contribute to the development and implementation of the tissue viability educational program for healthcare professionals engaged in wound and skin care within the local health framework. This will encompass formal group training, facilitating sessions for TVN link nurses, and providing one-on-one training for staff, patients, and their families.

You will collaborate with the broader Sussex Community Foundation Trust to advocate for best practices and ongoing service enhancements that address the wound care needs of the community. When required, you will step in for the Band 7 Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist and participate in Trust-wide tissue viability initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

You will be tasked with assisting community teams, inpatient units, and primary healthcare staff in managing patients with complex and/or chronic wounds, including pressure ulcers and leg ulcers. This will be done with the shared aim of promoting exceptional care within the community.

As a Tissue Viability Nurse, you will aid in the development and delivery of the tissue viability educational program for healthcare personnel involved in wound and skin care within the local health economy. This will include formal group training, facilitating TVN Forum sessions, and one-on-one training for staff, patients, and their families.

You will also work collaboratively with the wider Sussex Community Foundation Trust to promote best practices and ongoing service development that is responsive to the wound care needs of the area served. When necessary, you will step in for the Band 7 Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist and work as part of the broader SCFT TVN team on Trust-wide tissue viability projects.

Qualifications and Professional Registration

Essential

  • Registered nurse qualification (degree or diploma).
  • NMC registration.
  • ENB 998 or equivalent mentorship qualification.

Desirable

  • Leg Ulcer Management Module or Complex Wound or Tissue Viability module (or working towards).
  • Evidence of a range of clinical competencies.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience.
  • Up-to-date competencies in Doppler ABPI and compression bandaging.

Desirable

  • Experience in a community setting is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Demonstrated competency in various clinical skills, including wound management and Doppler assessment.
  • Knowledge of current local policies regarding wound, leg ulcer, and pressure ulcer management.
  • Ability to promote independence and choice in patient care.
  • Familiarity with SystmOne and mobile working; IT literate or willing to achieve within an agreed timeframe.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance, clinical audit, and professional codes of conduct.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of role boundaries.
