Southampton, Southampton, United Kingdom University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to present an exceptional opportunity to join our esteemed institution.

Below is a comprehensive outline of the responsibilities and expectations associated with this role.

Key Responsibilities

The Paediatric Orthopaedic department is excited to welcome a motivated and proactive Trainee Band 7 Advanced Clinical Practitioner to our Children's Trauma and Orthopaedic team. This position is designed for training, with support provided to pursue a Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.

The ACP team plays a crucial role in our department, delivering care, guidance, support, and education. Therefore, it is imperative that candidates possess experience in a Paediatric Orthopaedic environment. The selected individual will have the chance to cultivate specialized skills and become a proficient member of our Advanced Clinical Practitioner team, receiving extensive mentorship from our highly skilled paediatric orthopaedic nurses and clinicians. This development will include participation in joint clinics led by consultants and nurses, where the candidate will learn to assess, diagnose, and discuss treatment options for children and adolescents. Additionally, there will be opportunities for further specialized education and training days.

Our service currently operates Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, although this may evolve as the service develops, so flexibility is essential.

About Our Organization

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we provide numerous learning and development opportunities to help you achieve your career aspirations.

Non-clinical roles may involve a combination of on-site and remote work; specific details and flexible working arrangements can be discussed during the interview process. Employees of UHS have access to various NHS discounts, a minimum of 35 days of paid leave (pro rata), and a generous pension scheme.

Given the nature of this position, it is on-site, and the hours are as specified.

We encourage candidates to discuss their flexibility needs during the interview, and we will explore what is feasible for the role and service.

Job Duties

TEAM OVERVIEW

The Paediatric Orthopaedic service caters to patients from the Wessex region, serving a population of approximately 8.4 million. Our services include outpatient clinics and support for inpatients on ward G3.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team within the Orthopaedic Specialty and assist long-term patients transitioning to adult care.

YOUR ROLE

In collaboration with the existing multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for:

  1. Providing expert advice, education, and support to healthcare professionals and parents/caregivers of children with orthopaedic and trauma needs.
  2. Engaging in both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, with opportunities arising from both sectors, fully supported to promote independent practice.
  3. Managing sensitive and distressing situations appropriately.
  4. Overseeing your workload, assessing and prioritizing within established specialist guidelines.
  5. Contributing to the advancement of the specialist service, ensuring documentation and care programs are regularly updated.
  6. Completing documentation in accordance with Trust policy and NMC requirements.
  7. Fostering strong working relationships with the multidisciplinary team and providing support to ward staff.
  8. Working in areas of specialized interest, with the option to develop further skills and knowledge.
