Patient Access Coordinator

The Patient Access Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for patients and service users, providing in-depth knowledge of outpatient and inpatient scheduling procedures for their specialty.
Main Responsibilities- Act as the first point of contact for all patient access queries to the Trust.
- Ensure that the vetting process is followed for all new referral letters in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Be responsible for scheduling outpatient, elective admissions, and associated appointments according to clinical urgency and length of wait, adhering to departmental procedures and Trust Policies.
- Liaise with patients prior to their visit to ensure a mutually convenient date and time is agreed.
- Ensure patients are appropriately reminded of their appointments, including sending reminder letters or contacting patients by telephone up to seven days before their visit, in line with departmental protocols.
- Ensure departmental standards are met for patients receiving notification or acknowledgement of their visit.
- Provide a courteous and efficient point of contact for patients both face-to-face and over the telephone.
- Ensure each patient is treated as an individual and their individual needs are met, including providing appropriate support for their appointment, such as interpreting support.
The Nuclear Medicine Department is a highly specialized unit that employs 60 staff and has an annual revenue budget of £1.8m. The department provides services including thyroid clinic, general nuclear medicine, inpatient facilities, and osteoporosis screening, earning a significant amount of external income through its radio-pharmaceutical dispensary and having an international reputation for research and development.
