Institute Operations Manager

Overview of the Position
The incumbent will serve as the principal professional services manager for the UCL Eastman Dental Institute, tasked with steering the operational and professional services of the Institute while assisting the Director in their responsibilities.
The role encompasses the provision of effective and efficient services that underpin educational, research, and enterprise initiatives, collaborating with various teams within the Faculty and UCL as necessary.
Key duties include:
- Management of the Institute's financial resources
- Supervision of research grant approvals and contract submissions
- Recruitment and development of staff and students
- Facilitation of teaching and learning support
- Oversight of space and resource management in accordance with UCL policies
The incumbent will also assist the Director in formulating and executing strategic objectives, monitoring the Institute's performance, and providing counsel on strategic and institutional issues affecting the Institute.
The role requires the promotion of effective working practices throughout the Institute, with the responsibility of leading the development and refinement of relevant policies and procedures. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to take a proactive role in new initiatives and activities at the Faculty level.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in senior administrative, operational, and management roles within a higher education context, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in administrative functions and support services, including the establishment of service standards and performance monitoring.
Essential qualifications include:
- Proven experience in budget management
- Familiarity with research funding principles and governance
- Demonstrated ability in recruiting, managing, and developing personnel
- Knowledge of employment law principles relevant to university HR policies
- Experience in project and change management
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with senior stakeholders. The candidate should be capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision, as well as being an integral part of a team, while managing multiple priorities.
