About the Role
This senior leadership position oversees the professional services and technical operations of the Institute of Ophthalmology, providing essential support to the Institute's Director.
As the Institute Operations Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of services that underpin teaching, research, and enterprise activities. This involves close collaboration with Faculty, School, and UCL teams to achieve shared goals.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the Institute's budget effectively, overseeing the approval of research grants and contract proposals.
- Lead recruitment efforts for staff and students, ensuring a talented and diverse workforce.
- Oversee the provision of teaching and learning support, contributing to a high-quality educational experience.
- Manage space and other resources in accordance with UCL policies and procedures.
- Support the Director in developing and implementing strategic plans for the Institute.
- Monitor the performance of the Institute and provide advice on strategic and institutional matters.
- Promote best practices throughout the Institute, taking a lead role in developing and refining relevant policies and procedures.
- Contribute to new initiatives and activities at the Faculty level.
The successful candidate will possess a proven track record in senior administrative, operational, and management roles within a higher education environment. You will demonstrate experience in promoting excellence in administration and support services, including setting service standards and monitoring performance.
Essential skills and experience include:
- Effective budgetary management
- Experience with research funding principles and governance
- Proven ability to recruit, manage, and develop individuals effectively
- Demonstrable understanding of employment law underpinning university HR policy
- Project and change management expertise
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with senior stakeholders
