Role Summary

We are seeking a full-time In-Service Support Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will report to the Outstations and Planning Manager and collaborate with other members of the Services Central Engineering team. Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical expertise and support for monitoring, documenting, and addressing in-service failures related to our new fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all tasks are executed safely and effectively, adhering to relevant regulations and company procedures.
  • Provide technical support via telephone to assist operators and address customer concerns.
  • Continuously monitor fleet performance using advanced tracking systems.
  • Offer technical assistance to depot teams in diagnosing faults and facilitating repair activities.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of various power systems and control mechanisms.
  • Accurately document faults, generate reports, and communicate findings effectively.
  • Investigate and resolve intermittent faults in vehicles.
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of service failures.
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager to develop rescue plans for malfunctioning units.
  • Provide on-site assistance for units experiencing issues.
  • Contribute to enhancing rolling stock reliability and minimizing service disruptions.
  • Conduct on-train diagnostics and rectifications for in-service units.
  • Investigate technical challenges as directed by the engineering support team.
  • Participate in data collection for critical performance assessments.
  • Execute test runs to aid in fault identification and resolution.
  • Provide technical guidance for special checks and experiments.
  • Collaborate with systems support and specialist engineers to resolve technical issues.
  • Adhere to quality and safety protocols established by the Train Care Centre.
  • Assist the Warranty Engineer in fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Drive company vehicles as necessary to support operations.

Candidate Profile

We prioritize enthusiasm and a positive attitude over extensive experience. While we do not expect you to possess every skill, the following qualifications will be beneficial:

  • NVQ Level 3 in electrical engineering related to rolling stock or aircraft.
  • Practical experience and a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering for modern Electric Multiple Units.
  • Proficient IT skills, including familiarity with office software and communication tools.
  • Strong technical background in mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in work practices and approaches.
  • Self-motivated and capable of taking initiative to enhance job performance.
