Position Overview

This role is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new hires who are not currently employed by the Trust. This amount will be disbursed in three installments over a two-year timeframe. This incentive is exclusively available to new employees without an existing contract with the Trust. Additionally, this position includes financial enhancements for working during unsocial hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

A remarkable opportunity has emerged for a Physical Healthcare Practitioner to become part of the Offender Health Directorate.

This position necessitates a Primary Care Practitioner to collaborate within a team, providing care to individuals both in the Healthcare Centre and within the Units in a correctional environment.

Key Responsibilities

To deliver exceptional nursing care to individuals with physical health requirements in a correctional setting.

Responsible for the assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of patient care.

To offer foundational leadership to junior personnel by upholding professional standards and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures to guarantee the provision of high-quality care.

To provide guidance and oversight for junior staff and learners.

Job Responsibilities

The Offender Health Directorate stands as one of the largest and most effective providers of healthcare in correctional facilities across the UK. The Directorate offers physical, mental health, and substance misuse services in correctional facilities throughout the region.

The Directorate provides healthcare to multiple correctional facilities and a short-term holding facility. You will be part of a large network of over 400 healthcare professionals, benefiting from peer support, supervision, and excellent opportunities for professional development. We also provide services within the Personality Disorder Pathway, including Therapeutic Communities, Community and Prison Personality Disorder services, and specialized Veteran Services.

We are dedicated to collaborating with correctional services, national probation services, and other healthcare providers to enhance health outcomes, support justice, and reduce re-offending behavior. The Offender Health Team is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals in custody by delivering consistent, high-quality care in primary, mental health, and substance misuse services that are comparable to those available outside of correctional facilities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level registered nurse / RN

Desirable

  • Significant experience in the substance misuse field with evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Counselling

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in assessing patient conditions, triaging services, and delivering appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Experience in a criminal justice setting.
  • Established relationships with various statutory agencies and external organizations.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of healthcare issues relevant to criminal justice and substance misuse.
  • Familiarity with local and national Offender Health Strategy.
  • Proficient in assessment and triage skills.
