Job summary

We have exciting posts available for qualified and HCPC registered Clinical and Counselling Psychologists to join Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). Posts are advertised at Band8a; however, we welcome applications from applicants who are approaching qualification, newly qualified, or if you are interested in a preceptorship roles involve working in a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), where Psychologists are highly valued and form part of a wider multidisciplinary team, including other psychological professions in some areas (, CBT Therapists and Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners). They offer the opportunity for a variety of work including delivering psychological therapy, completing specialised neuropsychological assessments, and supporting the wider team through teamformulation, consultation, and supervision.

Main duties of the job

We have recently been able to provide access to post-qualification specialist training, alongside holding regular established CPD sessions. Psychologists are highly valued by the MHSOP Care Unit, and you would be supported to actively engage in service development and organisational change. As a department, we are currentlyinvolved in several service development projects including pathways for psychological therapies, SMI, and complex emotional needs. In parallel, the Care Unit is reviewing the provision of psychologically informed care, staff training to support this work, and embedding new roles to facilitate the delivery of psychological interventions at different levels. Psychologists are integral to this process, and you would have opportunity to both support and participate in these addition, you would become part of a wider network of Psychologists across the Trust, facilitated by an Associate Director for Psychological Professions, with regular opportunities to connect. We also have excellent relationships with local professional training courses and academic institutions, which also provides further research, supervision, and teaching opportunities. Job description

Job responsibilities

The role requires a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist who will have specialist skills for working with older people. You will work closely with service users and carers and with colleagues across the MHSOP Care Unit. Please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification formore detail.

The CMHTs provide community-based assessment and interventions for older people with a variety of mental health needs and people with a diagnosis of dementia. They also have links with the Memory Assessment Service (MAS), Young Onset Dementia team (YOD), Dementia Outreach Service (DOS) and the Intensive Home Treatment Teams (IHTT).Clinical work within the team will include providing direct psychological and neuropsychological assessment and interventions. In addition, you would support the delivery of psychologically informed care and care planning through case discussions, MDT meetings, supervision, training, and consultation.

Person Specification

Qualification

Essential

Professional Doctorate in clinical psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society Current HCPC registration Able to establish clinical relationships and work effectively with clients, relatives and carers (both professional and non professional).

Desirable

Specialist professional knowledge of psychological needs and services for older people and their carers, with some further specialisation within this. This includes relevant psychological theories, methods and evidence.

Experience

Essential

Understanding of health and social service organisational issues, statutory responsibilities and protocols for specific issues such as child protection, vulnerable adults, mental health act, confidentiality etc. Assessment and treatment of functional mental health problems, individually and/or in group settings. Completing initial Health and Social Needs Assessments

Previous experience of working with older people

Knowledge/Skills

Essential
