Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a proficient clinician with leadership and managerial capabilities to assume the role of Senior Nurse for Physical Health at HMP Ranby.

You will receive support from Clinical Matrons specializing in Physical Health, Substance Misuse, and Mental Health, alongside General Practitioners and other healthcare professionals within the broader healthcare team. This position will allow you to work creatively to enhance and design services that effectively cater to the physical health needs of the male population.

The team functions in a nurturing environment that emphasizes personal and professional growth. This role is suited for experienced registered general nurses and those aspiring to advance their careers in Offender Health.

Main Responsibilities

As a key member of the Healthcare Centre team, you will lead in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient needs and the corresponding care and treatment.

Ensure adherence to the National Service Frameworks while maintaining high standards of care for the prison population.

Act as the operational daily nurse in charge, coordinating and leading the team.

Provide leadership, support, and supervision to the team.

Uphold professional standards, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures to deliver high-quality care.

Job Responsibilities

The Offender Health Care Group is among the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK, delivering physical, mental health, and substance misuse services across various facilities.

Our Care Group provides healthcare to multiple prisons and a short-term holding facility. You will be part of a large peer group of over 400 healthcare professionals, with access to peer support, supervision, and excellent learning and development opportunities.

We are dedicated to collaborating with prison services, the national probation service, and other healthcare providers to enhance health and support justice, aiming to reduce re-offending behavior. The Offender Health Team is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of offenders by delivering consistent, high-quality care in primary, mental health, and substance misuse services that mirror those provided outside of prison.

Lead effective healthcare services for prisoners, ensuring compliance with required standards, Key Performance Indicators, Prison Health Performance Quality Indicators, CQC, and HMIP.

Demonstrate innovative practices while maintaining clinical efficacy, enabling the service to be a preferred provider for local commissioners.

Applicants must possess a valid RGN Qualification and be registered with the NMC. Flexibility, adaptability, and strong IT skills are essential. Prior experience in diverse healthcare environments is advantageous.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level registered nurse, RGN
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant areas such as Tissue Viability and Continence Promotion
  • Up-to-date HLS training

Desirable

  • Mentor and Assessor qualifications
  • Independent non-medical prescriber

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in Health Education and Promotion
  • Experience in triaging patients with various clinical conditions
  • Experience in Chronic Disease management
  • Experience in supervising and appraising staff
  • Experience in collaborating with other organizations

Desirable

  • Experience in a criminal justice setting
  • Experience in establishing close working relationships with various statutory agencies and external organizations
