We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Senior Pharmacy Technician, Operations Management to enhance our vibrant pharmacy team. This role involves supporting both the clinical pharmacy and broader pharmacy teams to ensure high-quality patient care through effective medication optimization and supply management.

As part of the inpatient pharmacy team, our responsibility extends to delivering exceptional care to patients in clinical settings as well as within our inpatient pharmacy dispensary and stores. We achieve this through collaborative efforts with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring seamless communication among ward-based pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nursing staff, and physicians to provide accurate and timely medication supply while upholding medication governance standards.

In the capacity of Senior Pharmacy Technician, Operations Management, you will oversee and manage pharmacy technicians, trainees, and assistants within the dispensary and storage areas, ensuring the delivery of an efficient, cost-effective, and timely pharmacy-led dispensing and distribution service.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake a comprehensive range of responsibilities as the Senior Pharmacy Technician, Operations Management, focused on delivering patient-centered, high-quality care.

Your duties will include managing the dispensary team comprising pharmacy technicians, pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians (PTPTs), and pharmacy assistants to ensure the provision of quality patient care, as well as organizing the operational workflow of the service. Key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Monitoring and managing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Overseeing stock control and management of medications, including controlled substances
  • Managing FP10s and other controlled stationery
  • Coordinating pharmacy-specific audits
  • Maintaining and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relevant to the department

You will collaborate closely with the Head of Pharmacy, Deputy Head of Pharmacy, Site Lead Pharmacy Technician, Lead Operations and Governance Pharmacist, and Lead Pharmacy Technician for Controlled Drugs and Governance to uphold high standards within the pharmacy dispensary. Leadership and mentorship to the dispensary team will also be expected.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant post-registration experience in a hospital pharmacy setting
  • Experience in managing or supervising a small team
  • Experience in staff training, including providing developmental feedback and implementing training plans
  • Accreditation in dispensing and accuracy checking
  • Familiarity with pharmacy labeling, stock control, and report generation systems
  • Experience in conducting audits and developing improvement plans
  • Proficiency in using incident reporting systems
  • Experience in developing and reviewing procedures

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in staff management, including conducting disciplinary meetings
  • Leadership experience within a pharmacy service, including daily operational organization
  • Experience in implementing change initiatives

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
  • HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent
  • Practice Supervisor, Train the Trainer, or equivalent qualification
  • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
