We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Senior Pharmacy Technician, Operations Management to enhance our dynamic pharmacy team. This role will involve supporting both the clinical pharmacy and broader pharmacy teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care at both ward and dispensary levels through effective medication optimization and supply management.

As part of the inpatient pharmacy team, our responsibility is to provide exceptional care to patients within clinical settings as well as in our inpatient pharmacy dispensary and stores. This is achieved through close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams based on the wards, ensuring seamless communication between our ward-based pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nursing staff, doctors, and other members of the healthcare team to guarantee accurate and efficient medication supply, alongside supporting medication governance initiatives.

In the capacity of Lead Technician for Pharmacy Operations, you will oversee and manage pharmacy technicians, trainees, and assistants within the dispensary and stores, ensuring the provision of an efficient, cost-effective, and timely pharmacy-led dispensing and distribution service.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be tasked with executing a comprehensive range of responsibilities as the Lead Technician for Pharmacy Operations, aimed at delivering patient-centered, quality care at the Royal London Hospital.

Responsibilities will include managing the dispensary team of pharmacy technicians, pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians (PTPTs), and pharmacy assistants to ensure the delivery of quality patient care, while also organizing the operational flow of the service. Additionally, you will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and maintaining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Overseeing stock control and management of medications, including controlled substances
  • Managing FP10s and other controlled stationery
  • Coordinating pharmacy-specific audits
  • Updating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relevant to the area

You will collaborate closely with the Head of Pharmacy, Deputy Head of Pharmacy, Site Lead Pharmacy Technician, Lead Operations and Governance Pharmacist, and Lead Pharmacy Technician for Controlled Drugs and Governance to uphold high standards within the pharmacy dispensary. Leadership within the dispensary will also be a key expectation of this role.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant post-registration experience in a hospital pharmacy setting
  • Experience in managing or supervising a small team
  • Proven experience in staff training, including providing developmental feedback and implementing training plans
  • Accreditation in dispensing and accuracy checking
  • Familiarity with pharmacy labeling, stock control, and report generation systems
  • Experience in conducting audits and developing improvement plans
  • Proficiency in using incident reporting systems such as Datix or equivalents
  • Experience in developing and reviewing procedures

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in staff management, including conducting disciplinary meetings
  • Leadership experience within a pharmacy service, including day-to-day service organization
  • Experience in implementing change initiatives

Essential Criteria

  • Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
  • HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent
  • Practice Supervisor, Train the Trainer, or equivalent qualification
  • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
