We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Senior Pharmacy Technician, Operations Management to enhance our dynamic pharmacy team. This role is pivotal in supporting both clinical pharmacy and broader pharmacy operations, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care through effective medication management and supply.

As part of the inpatient pharmacy team, your responsibilities will include providing high-quality service to patients in clinical settings as well as within our pharmacy dispensary. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential to ensure seamless communication between pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nursing staff, and physicians, facilitating accurate and timely medication distribution while upholding medication governance standards.

In your capacity as the Senior Pharmacy Technician, Operations Management, you will oversee and manage pharmacy technicians, trainees, and assistants within the dispensary and storage areas, ensuring an efficient and timely pharmacy service.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing the pharmacy team, including pharmacy technicians and pre-registration trainees, to guarantee the delivery of patient-centered care.
  • Organizing operational workflows within the pharmacy service.
  • Monitoring and reviewing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to:
    • Stock management, including controlled substances.
    • Oversight of FP10s and other controlled stationery.
    • Coordinating pharmacy-specific audits.
    • Updating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relevant to the department.
  • Collaborating closely with senior pharmacy leadership to uphold high performance standards within the dispensary.

Experience Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Post-registration experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Experience in managing or supervising a small team.
  • Training experience, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and implement training initiatives.
  • Accreditation in dispensing and accuracy checking.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy labeling, stock management, and reporting systems.
  • Experience in conducting audits and developing improvement plans.
  • Proficiency in using incident reporting systems.
  • Experience in developing and reviewing operational procedures.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in staff management, including conducting disciplinary meetings.
  • Leadership experience within a pharmacy context, overseeing daily operations.
  • Experience in implementing change initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
  • HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent.
  • Practice Supervisor or Train the Trainer qualification.
  • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent.
