Senior Pharmacy Technician - Technical Operations

Band 7

Hours per week (including weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis)

We are seeking a highly skilled aseptic Pharmacy Technician to oversee our team. Our focus is on providing intravenous chemotherapy to patients within the healthcare system. This role is situated in the Pharmacy Aseptic unit.

Our team operates in a fast-paced environment, delivering both in-house prepared and outsourced ready-to-administer intravenous chemotherapy doses across various healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

This position entails managing the daily operations of the Aseptic Unit, ensuring that a high-quality and efficient service is maintained. Key responsibilities include training and supervising staff, as well as supporting the implementation of the quality management system.

Applicants should possess extensive experience in aseptic production, workload management, staff training, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Demonstrated abilities in team leadership and self-direction are essential.

We are dedicated to the professional growth of our staff and the enhancement of our services. Currently, we are engaged in a project to upgrade our aseptic facility, and this role will play a crucial part in developing new operational systems and GMP standards.

Job Responsibilities

Service Leadership:

1. Provide leadership and management for all personnel within the section, ensuring quality and performance standards are met.

2. Drive service enhancements and staff development initiatives.

3. Serve as a role model, delivering a consistently high standard of pharmaceutical services aligned with organizational objectives.

4. Offer operational support to the pharmacy department as needed, including stock management and training for pharmacy staff.

5. Maintain accreditation as a Checking Pharmacy Technician.

Performance Management:

1. Ensure the section meets all relevant licenses and standards, including GMP and GCP.

2. Lead emergency preparedness and business continuity planning for the section.

3. Develop and review standard operating procedures and related documentation.

4. Monitor and investigate clinical incidents and complaints, implementing necessary procedural changes.

5. Conduct audits against local and national standards to ensure continuous improvement.

Staff Management:

1. Oversee the management of staff within the section, including staffing rotas and annual leave authorizations.

2. Facilitate training and development for all pharmacy personnel, ensuring compliance with service needs.

3. Conduct appraisals and manage recruitment processes for the section.

Research and Development:

1. Lead audits and practice research to enhance service quality for patients.

2. Foster collaborations with academic units to promote pharmacy practice research.

Financial Responsibilities:

1. Authorize orders and manage stock write-offs in accordance with financial guidelines.

2. Support the monitoring of expenditures to provide accurate financial information.

Communication and Collaboration:

1. Engage with multidisciplinary teams to provide medicine-related information and patient assessments.

2. Collaborate with staff to develop services and implement strategies for safe medication use.

3. Communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.

4. Provide training on medication-related policies and service developments to pharmacy and healthcare staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • BTEC level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent.
  • Supervisory or management qualification or willingness to pursue.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a qualified Pharmacy Technician.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy and staff supervision.

Desirable:

  • ACPT facilitator qualification.
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) status.
