About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forensic Clinical Psychologist to join our team at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a Forensic Clinical Psychologist, you will play a critical role in providing a comprehensive and highly specialist clinical and forensic psychology service to patients within our Men's Personality Disorder Service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist psychological assessments to patients within the allocated services, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
  • Formulate and implement plans for the psychological treatment and/or management of a patient's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the patient's problems.
  • Implement a range of psychological interventions, individual and group, within and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of patients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
  • Liaise closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team, giving authoritative specialist advice on psychological aspects of care, contributing directly to formulation, diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all patients of the service.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and to provide advice and training to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
  • Communicate in a skilled, persuasive and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment formulation and treatment plans of patients, and to monitor progress during the course of their multidisciplinary care.
  • Disseminate knowledge and skills in both general aspects of forensic clinical psychology, as well as a designated specialist area.
  • Represent Rampton Hospital and Psychology on Trust-wide and other committees and groups, as agreed with the Head of Psychology and with a clear brief.
  • Develop networks and contacts to update the policy and practice of forensic clinical psychology, particularly as applied to mentally disordered offenders, to support professional and service development.
Requirements
  • MSc or Doctorate in Clinical or Forensic Psychology. Must be HCPC registered and able to demonstrate eligibility for chartered status as a Clinical or Forensic Psychologist.
  • Chartered Clinical or Forensic status.
  • Further relevant post-qualification training.
  • Evidence of post-qualification specialist training.
  • Advanced knowledge, experience and expertise in at least one specialist area of clinical/forensic practice gained through specialist training and supervised practice (psychotherapy, neuropsychology, risk assessment, clinical and forensic supervision).
  • A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
  • Minimum two years supervised practice developing expertise in forensic clinical psychology practice.
  • Experience of effective MDT working.
  • Broad knowledge of models of assessment, management and treatment of mentally disordered offenders.
  • Record of clinical effectiveness;
  • High level of ability to plan and organise clinical service provision to meet service demand
  • Proven ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Can demonstrate competence in supervision of junior qualified psychology and MDT staff and psychology trainees;
  • Presentation and teaching skills;
  • Groupwork Skills;
  • Research Skills; IT literacy; Knowledge of legal system/MHA.
