Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

The position entails delivering specialized neuropsychological evaluations and interventions within patients' residences, alongside offering consultation and training to the multidisciplinary team regarding the psychological issues stemming from neurological conditions. The postholder will also oversee the work of Assistant Psychologists, Band 7 Clinical Psychologists, and Trainee Clinical Psychologists as necessary.

Job Duties

The role includes providing a professional and specialized clinical psychology service to adults experiencing neuropsychological challenges. This encompasses:

  • Managing a specialized caseload as an independent clinician to conduct psychological and neuropsychological assessments and treatments, including risk assessments.
  • Planning, organizing, delivering, and evaluating specialized psychological therapies and care programs for individuals and groups.
  • Offering advice, guidance, and consultation in neuropsychological assessment, physical rehabilitation, and health psychology.
  • Contributing a specialist clinical psychology perspective in complex multidisciplinary assessments, including collaboration with external agencies.
  • Providing advice to other professionals regarding psychological risk assessment and management.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • BPS accredited Doctoral Level Training qualification in Clinical Psychology.
  • Eligibility for Chartered status with the British Psychological Society.
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist: Clinical Psychologist.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Completion of a Clinical Psychology supervision qualification recognized by training courses.
  • Membership in The Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.
  • Completion or enrollment in Postdoctoral training in Clinical Neuropsychology at Diploma or MSc level or QiCN recognized by the BPS Division of Neuropsychology.

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience in clinical neuropsychology or neurorehabilitation, acquired pre or post-qualification or during clinical training, including experience in community neurorehabilitation teams.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in various neuropsychological assessments and interventions.
  • Experience in teaching and training.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in providing professional and clinical supervision.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and professionalism while communicating with clients experiencing high levels of emotion, hostility, and resistance.
  • Competence in communicating with clients with cognitive and communication challenges.
  • Ability to establish rapport with other professional groups.
  • Strong team player.
  • Highly motivated individual.

Contractual Requirements

  • A full UK driving license and vehicle for business use are required for this position; however, reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. Frequent travel is necessary to provide services as part of a community team in patients' homes and between sites.

Physical Requirements

  • The postholder must travel to patient homes and between NHS sites to deliver psychological services as part of a community team. The role involves moving psychometric tests and portable IT equipment as needed.
