Position: Gas Recovery Financial Officer

Salary: Starting from £32,792.00 based on experience

Bonus: Up to 5% performance-related bonus

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week

We are seeking a dedicated Gas Recovery Financial Officer to join our expanding team at Northern Gas Networks.

In this role, you will be responsible for investigating unregistered gas connections, including potential instances of gas theft, and where feasible, pursuing financial recovery.

Your primary duties will include:

  • Conducting thorough analyses of unregistered locations to identify potential gas consumption.
  • Investigating claims of unbilled energy based on tips or internal assessments.
  • Compiling investigation documentation to ensure adequate evidence is collected for financial recovery, including preparation for legal proceedings if necessary.
  • Presenting findings to customers in a professional manner, effectively managing challenging conversations.
  • Establishing facts and demonstrating resilience in situations involving potential deception regarding unregistered gas usage.
  • Negotiating settlements and clearly communicating processes and next steps to customers, including the delivery of difficult messages regarding payment obligations.
  • Following up on outstanding debts through written correspondence or phone calls, adapting to changing circumstances as needed.
  • Contributing to the enhancement of internal recording and calculation processes, supporting business changes, and managing the theft ledger.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the gas industry is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, including the ability to handle large datasets.
  • Proficient investigative skills and a curious mindset to ascertain facts.
  • Excellent verbal communication abilities, particularly in managing difficult discussions and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience in a relevant role, ideally with a credit control or credit management qualification.
