Your Role:

As an Underwriting Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the underwriting team in various capacities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the performance metrics of the portfolio and individual agreements; responsible for analyzing dashboards and key indicators to assess trends and performance.
  • Collaborating with other Digital Underwriting teams, including actuarial, data science, and business intelligence, to enhance portfolio performance. You will be tasked with providing recommendations regarding aggregate optimization, eligibility rule modifications, and market pricing strategies.
  • Assisting in the underwriting process, onboarding, and integration of new agreements and partnerships.
  • Maintaining Digital Underwriting guidelines and documentation, and coordinating with the Digital Underwriting product team for any adaptations or new product requirements.
  • Supporting Underwriters during the annual planning process and preparing materials for Underwriting Committees, Quarterly Business Reviews, and other necessary committees.
  • Engaging with clients; addressing underwriting, accounting, and technical inquiries from customers.
  • Managing diaries and preparing for meetings with both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring all documentation is ready prior to meetings, and distributing notes along with follow-up action points.
  • Assisting with Underwriting Reviews as needed, which may involve gathering information, drafting findings and recommendations, and ensuring follow-up on the implementation of recommendations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Actively implementing the core principles of Continuous Conversations (Commitments, Feedback, and Development) in daily activities and interactions with colleagues.
  • Prioritizing personal and professional development as part of Continuous Conversations.
  • Setting and achieving development goals through commitments and regular, constructive feedback.
  • Adhering to the policies and procedures of Bell & Clements Ltd.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in underwriting or assisting with US property insurance or re-insurance.
  • A collaborative team player capable of managing the needs of multiple stakeholders simultaneously.
  • A proactive self-starter with the confidence to make timely decisions.
  • A foundational understanding of standard insurance terminology, coverages, and metrics.
  • Experience in evaluating exposure data is preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Excel is essential.
