Team Dynamics

This role is situated within the National Security and Resilience (NSAR) team, which is dedicated to ensuring that national security strategies and crisis management efforts are informed by robust scientific advice and evidence.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

  • Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), incorporating lessons learned from previous activations.
  • Implement a structured program management approach to prioritize and deliver on the team's critical objectives.
  • Monitor potential risks that may necessitate SAGE activation, such as significant power outages or severe weather events.
  • Foster strong partnerships with scientific and operational stakeholders across government to ensure access to necessary expertise.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Government Chief Scientific Adviser regarding national security and resilience challenges.
  • Contribute to a reliable crisis response framework through SAGE, including participation in an on-call duty roster.

Desirable Attributes

Preferred candidates may have:

  • Experience in crisis response planning and execution.

  • Background in managing cross-departmental projects.
  • A track record of identifying and implementing innovative improvements.

While scientific or technical knowledge is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite for this role.

Work Environment

The Department promotes a hybrid working model, allowing for a blend of office and remote work. Staff are generally expected to be present in the office for a portion of their working hours.
